History of the
Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department
The Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1942. The Dickinson Community has had a volunteer fire department for over 80 years.
The first fire station was located at the corner of Highway 3 and Minnesota Street. This station was in operation until 1961. A new Station was built at FM 517 & Dockrell which was in operation from 1961 to 2007. It is still owned and used by the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department as storage and special events.
In 1998, Station 2, located at 221 FM 517 West was built. The Dickinson Volunteer Department paid approximately $250,000 for the building. The building services the west side of the Dickinson Community. This station is maintained, operated and owned by the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department.
The New Central Fire Station, located at 4500 FM 517 East was built in 2007 for $2.2 million. The building is owned, operated and maintained by the City of Dickinson. The City Paid EMS Service and offices operate out of this station. Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department houses some of it's equipment and business offices at this location.

FIRE PREVENTION
Fire prevention is an essential part of keeping our community safe and protecting lives and property. Simple steps, such as testing smoke alarms, practicing a home fire escape plan, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and using electrical equipment safely, can help prevent fires before they start. By staying alert and following fire safety guidelines, we can work together to reduce fire risks and create a safer community for everyone.
REPORT AN EMERGENCY
If you experience an emergency, call 911 immediately for fire, medical, or life-threatening situations. Provide the dispatcher with your location, the nature of the emergency, and any important details. Stay calm, follow the dispatcher's instructions, and do not hang up until instructed. Every second counts when someone's safety is at risk.
FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION
Fire safety is essential to protecting your family, home, and community. Test smoke alarms regularly, keep fire extinguishers accessible, avoid overloading electrical outlets, and keep flammable materials away from heat sources. Make sure everyone in your household knows at least two ways to escape each room and has a designated meeting spot outside. Being prepared and practicing fire safety can help prevent emergencies and save lives.
VEHICLE SAFETY
Vehicle safety starts before you hit the road. Always wear your seat belt, obey traffic laws, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. Keep your vehicle properly maintained and slow down during poor weather conditions. In the event of an accident, move to a safe location if possible and call 911 if anyone is injured or immediate assistance is needed.

Our fire department provides 24-hour emergency response to protect and serve our community. From structure fires and vehicle accidents to medical emergencies and first responder calls, our dedicated personnel are ready to respond when help is needed. Day or night, we remain committed to protecting lives, property, and the safety of our community.
MEDICAL ASSIST
Medical emergencies can happen at any time. If someone is experiencing a serious injury, difficulty breathing, chest pain, or another life-threatening condition, call 911 immediately. Stay with the person, provide the dispatcher with accurate information, and follow their instructions until emergency responders arrive. Quick action can help save lives and ensure the person receives the care they need.
